Heamatological Parameters in Type 2 Diabetic Patients Attending Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital Okada, Edo State, Nigeria

Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases in which there are high blood sugar levels over prolonged period, and if untreated could lead to complications. This study, carried out at the Igbinedion university teaching hospital Okada ascertain some hematological parameters, using 69 known diabetes patients who enrolled as an Out-patient General Out- Patient Department non- apparently healthy individuals control. Thirty- nine these diabetic were female, while thirty male individuals. For individuals, thirty- seven thirty-two representing 53.6% 46.4% respectively. Ethical approval from institution was sought prior commencement study quality control reagents strictly maintained. Five millilitres whole collected into Ethylene Diamine Tetra-Acetic acid (EDTA) anticoagulated bottle, haematological parameters including PCV, HB, WBC, RBC,MCV, MCH, MCHC platelet count conducted for all Result obtained Diabetic showed mean value 34.63, 11.24, 4.41, 7.20 204.27 Hb, RBC, WBC platelets counts respectively, non-diabetic 35.04, 10.09, 3.99, 7.07 262.56 respectively.Hb concentration RBC statistically significant (p < 0.05). The Red cell indices, MCV MCHC, significant. variation compared .Low alteration red morphology indicated values among indicators thrombotic potential. Hence, routine screening should be considered proper management patients.
